A coffee stain on carpet becomes more challenging to clean once it dries but you can use carpet cleaner or items you have around the house to loosen the stain.

If you know your carpet is not a wool or wool blend you can try mixing one tablespoon of ammonia with one cup of water. Blot with a dry towel to remove more of the coffee stain as it lifts from the carpet fibers.

The good news is that cleaning coffee stains from carpets and rugs is super simple to do even if the stains are old. The stain will be slowly lifted into the towel. Put some 3 hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and generously spray the stain. If the coffee contained cream or sugar combine one capful of enzyme laundry detergent and one cup warm water in a fresh dish.

If your coffee has cream or milk in it you may need an extra cleaner to break up the proteins in the dairy component of the stain. Apply a cleaning solution. Make sure you don t rub the carpet as this could get the liquid trapped in the fibers. Stir the solution to blend it well.

Once you ve gotten most of it up use cold water to pour over the stain and blot again to dilute it. Use a white cloth to blot the coffee moving from the outside to the middle of the stain to prevent the spill from spreading. For those who are still dealing with old coffee stains you can use salt on it. You only need a few ingredients from your cleaning closet.
